Members Evening

Homage to Bailey
Monday February 19th will see the first of five members’ evenings at the club in 2018. We want to make the most of these evenings by involving as many members as possible, so they will be split into three separate elements: a practical session; an ‘image forum’; and a digital tips’n’techniques session, all of which will take place in the Broughton Suite.

As this will be the first members’ evening, it will be very much a ‘suck it and see’ event but, as long as members turn up armed with sufficient camera bags and/or prints/PDIs, then it should go well.

PRACTICAL SESSION

In one corner of the room, our own CAROLINE BRIDGES will be setting up her lights and bringing her daughter CHLOE (see picture) as a model (and she’s a pro) for you to shoot.

Caroline will give a short presentation about studio lighting as she sets up and will be on hand to offer tips and advice on posing and shooting.

So, bring along your camera bag.

IMAGE FORUM

Thanks to NEIL HUMPHRIES who has agreed to overseer this workshop.

Essentially, Neil will be on hand to discuss your images with you rather than doing a critique as a judge would on a competition evening.

He will be asking questions such as: ‘What were you aiming to achieve with this photo?’ and take it from there. Bring along prints and/or PDIs (on a disc or memory stick).

If you’re not already aware, Neil is a valued member of our club as he has over 30 years of experience and expertise, winning numerous awards at his main club Rolls-Royce (Derby) PS and in N&EMPF Exhibitions. Furthermore, he has won awards for portraiture, landscape, nature and photo art montages.

We will be setting up our projector and smaller screen for this session where we aim to explore digital processing.

For this first session, my good self ASHLEY FRANKLIN will be taking you through the three software plug-ins he and many other club photographers use: Topaz, On 1 and Nik/Google FX.

Rather than show my images, I would like you to bring along YOUR images (RAW files would be ideal) so that you can discover how software effects can enhance and transform your pictures.

As I’ve still yet to fully explore the myriad possibilities offered by these software packages – you never stop learning - I would welcome members being on hand to show what THEY do to enhance and transform their images. I would love it especially if you have some images where you can show us ‘Before’ and ‘After’ examples.

So, I hope you will make the most of Monday. Note well: there is nothing to stop you from getting involved in ALL THREE SESSIONS. In fact, we encourage you to do so!

All the Best

We are holding an auction of photographic books belonging to former DCPC member Sally, this will take place during the Members Evening on 19th February. All proceeds will go to "Sight Savers" a charity which has been and continues to be of great assistance to her and one which she works tirelessly to support.
