Welcome

FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Thank you for visiting our website. I will thank you even more if you visit our club, especially as we are entering an exciting new phase in moving to a new venue: Strutts Community Centre in Belper.

Over 40 years, Derby City Photographic has also built up a reputation as a friendly club where prospective members are given a warm welcome. They also come into a healthy fold of eager-to-learn beginners right through to experienced practitioners who both inspire and help others.

We also have an enviable reputation for the quality of our lectures, and encourage the spirit of competition through monthly themed contests in both digital and print.

We have a flourishing photo library, too – over 100 books.

Derby City PC is also one of the 40-plus members of the North & East Midlands Photographic Federation (N&EMPF) which is itself affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB).

GARY GROUCUTT presents VISUALISATION: SEEING THE IMAGE BEFORE PRESSING THE SHUTTER

This award-winning landscape photographer has been leading his Lightscapes workshops in the UK for nearly 20 years and was highly recommended for this talk by one of our members, Mark Constable, who has himself won awards for images taken on a dozen of Gary’s popular workshops. In this presentation, Gary will stress the importance of picturing the image before taking the shot, with due consideration for composition,
lighting and weather.

MEMBER’S LECTURE

CLARE O’FLANAGAN presents URBEX PHOTOGRAPHY

As an Urbex photographer - Urbex is short for Urban Exploration – Clare seeks out derelict and deserted buildings and produces architectural images full of drama and fascination. As Clare states: ‘natural decay can create gloriously photogenic scenes, especially when nature has encroached on abandoned buildings’. This is a timely talk, too, as Urban Decay is our competition theme on January 20th.
